Fruman is Iceland's first biotechnology center, purpose-built to drive innovation, collaboration, and growth. Once a state-of-the-art R&D lab for Alvotech, this facility has been reimagined as a dynamic hub shaping the future of Icelandic biotechnology.
Fruman – which means ‘cell’ in Icelandic – brings together academia, startups, and industry leaders, in order to accelerate scientific progress and strengthen Iceland’s thriving biotechnology ecosystem.
Four Pillars of Innovation at Fruman
Inside Fruman, you will find the Fruman Innovation Center, where entrepreneurs and companies work on developing ideas and solutions in biotechnology. There is also Fruman Lab – a research and teaching facility that supports scientific innovation and practical knowledge. Fruman Academy offers education and training for students and professionals in biotechnology, and the Fruman Biotechnology Fund provides financial support for projects that foster innovation and growth in the industry.

Fruman Innovation Center is an accelerator for biotechnology entrepreneurs.

Fruman Lab
Fruman Lab offers fully equipped research facilities for biotechnology.
Options include dedicated spaces or shared laboratory areas, access to equipment for rent, and support with setup and equipment purchases. The facilities are suitable for both startups and established companies.
Fruman Academy
Fruman Academy supports education and skills development within biotechnology.
The Academy connects education, research, and industry needs through collaboration with domestic and international partners.
Fruman Biotechnology Fund
The Fruman Biotechnology Fund is an investment fund focused on biotechnology.
The fund supports projects and companies at various stages of development, both within and outside the Fruman ecosystem, and works with entrepreneurs to create long-term value.
